Welcome to Regent Park

Regent Park is bounded by the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) to the East, Parliament to the West, Queen St to the South and Gerrard to the North. C'mon now, don't be scared. I know what you must be thinking. If you've lived in Toronto for longer than 10yrs you know that this is usually an area to avoid at all cost! High crime, run down stores adding little or no value to the neighbourhood and really no desirable real estate to consider. Well my friends, all of this is changing. As of 5yrs ago, Regent Park is undergoing a 15yr redevelopment that is already drawing crowds.

Daniels Development Corporation is the lead developer in this area, with nearly 2000 units already built and occupied many young professionals and young families have moved in to the area. This development is most evident along Dundas St East b/w Parliament and River. Cole st offers some of the most affordable 3 bedroom townhouses in the City and they look great! The demolition of the existing 1960's low rent apartment complexes were a godsend. That being said, you can't demolish affordable housing and expect those residents to live on the street. All of these new developments were expected to incorporate low income, affordable housing in their projects. Some families were able to stay while others chose to move to other areas. The good news is that the local infrastructure was able to keep up with the influx of new residents. The new Fresh Co., Rogers store and other restaurants, shops and bars are moving in and are really creating a community here.

Although condos are the new addition to the area people are seeing value in some of the dilapidated homes, mainly semi's, in the area. One by one as people get priced out of the pricey Cabbagetown they are buying up these homes and bringing them back to life. It's truly a great feeling seeing this happen to such a neglected neighbourood.

Neighbourhood Hot spots

Sukho Thai

Restaurant

A true Authentic Thai experience! You can feel the love in the food. Owner couple met while traveling in Thailand and eventually married, came to Canada and managed to express the love they had for each other in to their food. One of the many new establishments that are an integral part of transforming this once forgotten neighbourhood.

Regent Park Fish & Chips

Restaurant

Amazing batter, not too heavy certainly hits the spot! Enjoy a nice plate of chunky fries on the side. I don't know what they add to their tartar sauce but it's the best we've had!

Regent Park Hockey

Amenity

Winter fun on the local ice rink. Free skate or pick up a game of shinny. All levels welcome!
